Complex 320-325, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado

When veiwed from the air Complex 320-325, of the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado is shaped like a swastika. A draft study conducted by the National Register of Historic Places noted that the shape of the six-building complex was simply an oversight that went undetected during the Navy’s approval process.
In early 2007 the San Diego chapter of the Anti-Defamation League began quiet talks with the Navy, and on September 26, 2007 the Navy announced that they would budget up to $600,000, to modify the buildings’ walkways and rooftop to hide the swastika look from the air.

Serial Killer Statistics

Of all the states in the union, California has the single highest number of serial homicide cases in the twentieth century - fully 16 percent of the national total. Maine, on the other hand, had the lowest - none. Other states to avoid: New York, Texas, Illinois, and Florida. The safest places in America, at least in terms of serial murder, are Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, and Vermont, each of which had only one case of serial murder in the twentieth century.
  • The United States is the hands-down leading producer of serial killers, with 76 percent of the world’s total. Europe comes in a distant second with a measly 17 percent.
  • England has produced 28 percent of the European total. Germany is a very close second with 27 percent, and France is third with 13 percent.
  • In terms of demographics, the vast majority of American serial killers - fully 84 percent - are Caucasian and a mere 16 percent black.
  • In terms of gender, men constitute the overwhelming preponderance of serial killers - at least 90 percent. Indeed, depending on how the crime is defined, many experts believe that serial murder is an exclusively male activity.
  • While women constitute, at most, an infinitesimal fraction of serial murderers, they make up the majority of victims - 65 percent.
  • It is very rare for a serial killer to prey on members of another race. Since most serial killers are white, so are the vast majority of victims - 89 percent.
  • Serial murder tends to be a young person’s crime. Most serial killers - 44 percent - embark on their deadly careers in their twenties, with 26 percent starting out in their teens and 24 percent in their thirties.

Sleep tight

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, If I shall die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Varg Arrested

“In October 2003, Varg Vikernes failed to return to his low-security prison in Tønsberg, Norway after having been granted a short leave. He was found riding in a stolen Volvo car, which, according to the media, contained an unloaded AG3 automatic rifle, a handgun, numerous large knives, a gas mask, camouflage clothing, a laptop, a compass, a Global Positioning System, various maps and a fake passport (it is thought that Vikernes came to be in possession of this equipment by means of a military barracks). For this thirteen months were added to his sentence, and he was moved to a maximum-security prison in Trondheim.”

Elyse Marie Pahler

Elyse Marie Pahler (April 24, 1980 – July 22, 1995) was a murder victim, whose parents attempted to sue the American thrash metal band Slayer claiming that their music contributed to their daughter’s death.

Fifteen year old Elyse Pahler’s body was discovered near her home in Arroyo Grande, California, in March 1996. She had been raped and murdered there eight months earlier by acquaintances Jacob Delashmutt, Joseph Fiorella and Royce Casey. The trio had lured Elyse from her house with the stated intention of killing her as part of a satanic ritual, although the crime bears many of the hallmarks of similar sexually motivated murders. The perpetrators apparently returned to the corpse and had sex with it on several occasions. The body was located after Casey confessed to the crime following a religious conversion to Christianity.

In their defense, the defendants said they had needed to commit a “sacrifice to the devil” in order to give their heavy metal band, Hatred, the “craziness” to “go professional”. All three eventually pleaded no contest to her murder and are now imprisoned and serving 25 years to life.

David and Lisanne Pahler claimed that the Slayer songs “Postmortem” and “Dead Skin Mask” gave the three killers detailed instructions to “stalk, rape, torture, murder and commit acts of necrophilia” on their daughter. The lawsuit was originally filed in 1996 but delayed until 2000 when the killers’ trial was concluded. Initially the case was thrown out of court as the judge stated “There’s not a legal position that could be taken that would make Slayer responsible for the girl’s death. Where do you draw the line? You might as well start looking through the library at every book on the shelf.”

Undeterred however, the Pahlers launched a second lawsuit claiming that Slayer “knowingly distributed harmful material to minors.” This case too was dismissed, with Judge E. Jeffrey Burke stating, “I do not consider Slayer’s music obscene, indecent or harmful to minors.” Jacob Delashmutt himself stated in a Washington Post interview that “The music is destructive [but] that’s not why Elyse was murdered. She was murdered because Joe [Fiorella] was obsessed with her, and obsessed with killing her.”

Dimebag Darrell Murder

Darrell Lance Abbott AKA ”Dimebag Darrell” the founding member of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan was murdered onstage on December 8 2004. Abbott was shot onstage while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio by 25 year old former marine Nathan Gale. Minutes into the band’s set, Dimebag Darrell’s bodyguard exited the stage, at which moment Gale ran onto the stage from the wing and began shooting, hitting Dimebag’s torso and head eight times, killing him instantly. Gale then continued shooting, killing four others and wounding a further seven. Gale fired a total of fifteen shots, stopping to reload once and remaining silent throughout the shooting.
  • Jeff “Mayhem” Thompson, the band’s head of security, was killed while engaging in hand-to-hand combat with Gale after chasing him onto the stage as he shot Dimebag.
  • Audience member Nathan Bray was shot and killed while trying to perform CPR on Dimebag and Mayhem.
  • Erin Halk, an Alrosa Villa employee, attempted to charge Gale when he ran out of bullets. However, Gale was able to reload faster than anticipated and killed Halk.
  • Damageplan drum technician, John “Kat” Brooks, was shot three times as he attempted to get the gun away from Gale, but was overpowered and taken hostage in a headlock position.
  • Tour manager Chris Paluska and Damageplan singer Pat Lachman was also shot and injured.
Seven police officers came in the front entrance, and Officer James D. Niggemeyer came in through the back door, behind the stage. Gale only saw the officers in front of the stage; he never saw Officer Niggemeyer, who shot Gale in the face and killed him. Gale was found to have had 35 rounds of ammunition remaining.
Early theories of motive suggested that Gale might have turned to violence in response to the breakup of Pantera, or the public dispute between Dimebag and Pantera singer Phil Anselmo, but these were later ruled out by investigators. Another theory was that Gale believed Dimebag had stolen a song that he had written.
Gale had in fact been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2003 and apparently believed that the band could read his mind, and that they were “stealing” his thoughts and laughing at him.
Dimebag was buried with Eddie Van Halen’s black and yellow-striped Charvel electric guitar. Edward Van Halen originally agreed to make Darrell a copy of the guitar, but upon hearing of Abbott’s death, offered to place the actual guitar in his casket. Dimebag was buried in a KISS Kasket. Kiss frontman Gene Simmons said, “There were a limited number made and I sent mine to the family of ‘Dimebag’ Darrell. He requested in his will to be buried in a Kiss Kasket.”
